Hello everyone!

So, Newlife 0.8.15 has been released. Early-access Patrons can find it in the creations section here. The changelog is below.

 
The previous version is now public. You can download it using the links on the right-hand side of the blog.

Saves from old versions will probably still work in this one, but I haven't tested this and can't make any promises.

For new players - just use one of the links to the right to get a zipfile containing Newlife. Once unzipped, you'll see a folder containing .jar and .exe files. Either one of these will run the game. 
For either version you'll need to have Java installed. A lot of programs use Java so you might well already have it. If the jar shows up as an unrecognised file type, then you probably don't. In that case you can get it from http://www.java.com/. 
The exe should tell you if you don't have the right version on your computer, but you'll still need to install java to run the game.
There's a guide for new players here which includes some troubleshooting tips for installation & downloading.

 

Major changes & additions:

• Updates to the town-date, including the ability to extend the bar route longer with more “drunk” content.

Minor changes:

• Added a new text passage to a route in the cooking class, following a report by Sci that the text was reused from elsewhere and wasn't making sense for that path.

• Added more text variety to “Express your uncertainty”

• Improved text for the 'move hips' action in lesbian strapon sex.

• Improved text for the romantic talk action in lesbian strapon sex.

• Added some text for the npc orgasm in lesbian strapon sex.

• Added some text for the breast-touching action in lesbian strapon sex.

• Improved text for the sex talk action in lesbian strapon sex.

• Added some text variety for the doggystyle npc “ass slapping” action.

• Added some text variety to the playful resistance action when held down during sofa sex.

• Adjusted the numbers for Express Uncertainty NPC responses to make it a bit more likely that NPCs will respect the PC's reluctance, though I also reduced the impact of the CONFUSED love level so in some situations the opposite might be true.

• Improved the text for the “rub his bulge” makeout action.

• Had a look over the NPC “ask to have kids” home-date action, as requested by Saur. I increased the action weight somewhat, reduced the relationship duration check for impregnator characters and increased the “baby limit” for impregnator+wants-kids npcs and (slightly) for traditional ones when married. It still has various requirements that may make it rare to appear. Notably the NPC needs to be able to take an action during a home-date scene, they must not already be trying for a baby (which blocks it when there's an active baby-making) and NPCs will stop asking once they have a large family, except in the new impregnator+wants-kids situation where I increased the limit by 100.

• The game now tracks and displays (in the stats section) your number of PIV and lesbian sexual partners.

• Changed the effect of the Misanthropic Friend friendship effect, following a comment by Birb that highlighted that its skill-draining effect was confusing and poorly-communicated. It now provides a flat -20 modifier to charm as long as that character is befriended and doesn't have a high enough friendship level to disable negative effects.

• Added a new friend effect, Maternal Friend, to take advantage of the new skill-modifier friend effect code. Let me know if you have suggestions for other friend effects that could have modifiers (positive or negative) to other skills.

Bugfixes:

• Fixes to some text issues. Thanks to Zab for reporting some of these.

• Fixed some off-by-one errors in NPC decision making.

• Fixed (I think) a bug where custom NPCs would error if the boss partner effect is not set.

• Fixed a bug reported by Bicobus where the save/load buttons were appearing incorrectly in the wrong tab of the wardrobe screen.

This update was originally going to be an NPC wealth update, but I couldn't come up with good, fun, enjoyable changes so I ended up mostly just adding to the sex scenes.

Major changes & additions:

• Some updates to make NPC wealth more impactful.

• Improvements to various sex scenes, mainly based around adding alternative text for various actions, especially repeated actions:

• Cowgirl: more variety to NPC speech action, NPC compliment action, NPC breast groping. Improvements to text for “keep riding him”, tender kiss, self breast-caress. Added childfree text for failed withdrawal.

• Male-dominant sex scenes: more variety to NPC caress breasts action, some more lines to sex-talk, more variety to sex-description lines, improvements to the rough breast-groping NPC action, more variety to initial-entry text.

• Sex from behind: more variety for move-hips text.

• Doggy: variety for repeated self breasts-groping.

Minor changes:

• Added variety when repeating the oral “caress his balls” action.

• Some tweaks/improvements to the text for the NPC sexual compliments.

• Added a new action requested by Birb where you can ask a man to keep your underwear on during a makeout.

• Updated friend effects to check NPC wealth, with some friend effects switching to alternative versions at high/low income levels.

• Internal rework of how friend/partner effects are set to support the richer/poorer change.

• New friendship event for rich friends.

• Anal sex: text variety for repeated use of the “push against him” action.

• Anal sex: text variety for repeated use of the “touch yourself” action.

• Updated the request condom action in both sex and makeout scenes to have more relevant text when the “always refuse pullout requests” status is on.

Changes for user-submitted content:

• Added a “SEX_WORK” scene flag that is set when the PC is being paid for sex and affects text in some MO/sex actions.

• Updated the prostitution yml/vm files to use SEX_WORK, SEX_WORK_PIV and SEX_WORK_ANAL flags.

Bugfixes:

• Fixes to some text issues. Thanks to AnarChYsT for reporting some of these.

• Fixed a bug with the NPC “caress breasts” sex action where the effects on arousal etc were being calculated incorrectly.

• Fixed an issue reported by Alpha where the start of unprotected sex could sometimes show childfree pregnancy-fear content (and arousal/enjoy effects) even when the PC is already pregnant.

This update doesn't have a particular focus. Rather, it adds various things requested by players, as well as some changes I came up with on my own.

Major changes & additions:

• Following a suggestion by Leviathan, added a new event that allows for a friendly end to your office rivalry and to start dating the rival without having to defeat her first. This requires you to have been intimate with her a few times.

• New small random event that can happen when you're in a relationship with an accountant.

• Updated the minidate exlover scene with a new version by Lost Trout.

Minor changes:

• Added some more trait-based flavour options for when a man comes up to you in the club.

• A PC with the maternal trait will now be more attracted to female NPCs if they are visibly pregnant or, to a lesser extent, if they have a baby.

• Updated some help sections to reflect changes in the game since they were written.

• Added some friendly interactions with the rival to the office party scene that are enabled by the new friendly end to the rivalry.

• Moved the missionary state-change actions (open legs, lift legs etc) to after the repeatable actions (move your hips, kiss his chest etc) in the action list.

• Added some variety to the text for the default breast-groping NPC makeout action.

• New “clutch his shoulders” action for the missionary sex scene.

• Added text variety to the “Masturbate him” action in the oral sex scene.

Changes for user-submitted content:

• Added WATCH_MF_COWGIRL and WATCH_MF_MO as a possible transition for custom scenes, as requested by Stochastic. These allow transitions to the scenes where you watch a female NPC and a male NPC together. See the docs for more information.

Bugfixes:

• Fixes to some text issues. Thanks to Saur for reporting some of these.

• Fixed an issue where some routes in the office rival scenes were not flagging you and her as having had sex, and therefore not unlocking relevant content in later scenes, notably the dating routes in the victory-over-the-rival scene.

• The scene where the PC is kept awake by sex sounds in the brothel will now only happen when she is actually living there.

• Fixed a bug reported by AnarChYsT where the PC was not being paid when the landlord pimps her out.

The update has been delayed a while due to my health issues, including a brief but rather miserable period of hospitalisation. However, I'm at home now and it is ready to go!

This update adds a new neighbourhood where you can get a super-cheap room above a brothel, along with a bunch of new scenes around living there and potentially making some money on the side.

Major changes & additions:

• Added a new 'bad' neighbourhood, a crummy flat in the redlight district in a building used for 'other purposes'. This is overseen by a new landlord (the “Pimp Landlord”) who is always the landlord for this home and only this one.

• Failing to pay your rent in the non-redlight homes will now have the PC evicted instead of going into debt. Failing to pay in the redlight area will still cause debt, although this may be changed later.

• The PC can, on moving into the redlight home, offer to do sex-work as a side-gig. This is handled by events and is not treated as a “day job”.

• Two new events for the redlight home, focusing on the impact living there can have on her work. Both of these are currently only available for working characters.

Minor changes:

• Increased the weight for the “interact with first baby” scene to make it more likely to fire during its restricted time window. Thanks to AnarChYsT for highlighting that this potential issue.

• Added an action to go back to the initial choices to the move-home scene, now that there are multiple available moves.

• Redlight neighbourhood has a slightly higher chance of mugging events (90 weight, compared to 80 for the starting home and 10 for the pleasant one).

• Added some stats and game-flags to track prostitution, both in the new redlight content and the existing hotel/street scenes by Secondarian.

• Rent modifier is now tracked on a per-landlord basis rather than a single value.

Changes for user-submitted content:

• PIMP_LANDLORD can be customised. Bear in mind that this NPC is always the landlord for the redlight district and only that – he cannot be given other landlord traits.

Bugfixes:

• Fixes to some text issues. Thanks to StuntCuffer for reporting some of these.

• Fixed an issue with text about changing landlords when moving back to a home you've previously lived in.

• Fixed an error reported by Gamecat007 where one of the childfree events was throwing an error when opening.

• Fixed a bug reported by StuntCuffer where the “dragged to bed by your hair” route in the scene where your husband demands you fulfill a breeding vow was still triggering for shaven-headed PCs.

This update focuses on content for characters in a relationship with a student NPC.

Major changes & additions:

• New content based around being in a relationship with a partner who is a university student. This includes a sizable new scene that includes some special routes for players in lesbian relationships, as well as an event where they can graduate with a tendency towards better outcomes if their studies were going more successfully and a brief one where a pregnant student struggles with her studies.

• Following some suggestions by Dunan Rayne, added a save/load tab to the wardrobe screen. This lets you save a character's wardrobe (all clothing & outfits) and then load it later in another game. Bear in mind though that loading a wardrobe will overwrite anything the character had already so it's probably best for new games.

Minor changes:

• New “academic” npc career where they work as a university lecturer.

Bugfixes:

• Fixes to some text issues. Thanks to Nameless for reporting some of these.

• Fixed an issue with some NPC careers not giving an advantage to DULL characters.

• Adjusted female NPC career choices such that character type has a stronger effect.

• Increased the bonus INNOCENT female NPCs get to their career rating for the librarian career.

• Rewrote a line in the “partner calls while you have sex with a jerk” content that didn't make sense with how the situation had been described earlier. Thanks to Dunan Rayne for reporting this!
