Customisation options in the public version of 0.4.4

Hello everyone!

Well not everyone in this case as this post isn't really relevant to patrons. The public version of 0.4.4 allows access to the customisation half of the cheat menu. However, this won't become available until Newlife registers that you've completed the game at least once.
The reason for this is because I want new players to have their first experience with the default settings.

However, the code to track when the player finishes a game was only added in 0.4.4. This means that even experienced players won't see the customisation screen until the complete a game in this version. This can be bypassed, and I'm going to use this blog post to explain how. New players shouldn't follow these steps - try an un-customised game for your first playthrough.

To bypass the restrictions:
- Download and unzip Newlife 0.4.4 (or a later version, if you're reading this in the future).
- Start the game
- Enter the options screen from the main menu and click OK to exit it again. This will make Newlife refresh your options file and add a new line to it.
- Close Newlife
- Go to your newlife_gamedata folder.
- Open the file newlife.properties in a simple text editor like notepad.
- Change the line COMPLETED_GAME=false to COMPLETED_GAME=true
- Save and close the file
- Start Newlife again. You'll now have access to the Cheats & Customisation part of the female character creation screen.

    I just loaded a template I saved on Ver.0.4.4 Public and it unlocked the Patreon Only cheats that were greyed out before, I don't think you meant this to happen just through I would tell you.

  2. Meh~ I just holded the enter button to fast fowards week and did those 52 pretty fast. Instructions seemed easy enough to follow but i trust myself to fail somewhere along the way.

  3. I've read on some forum that there's a pink/purple car in one scene in this game but I've played it hundreds of times and didn't find it. Is it a patron-only scene or maybe something that has been removed from the game?

    1. Describe Scene in the lost phone event has a randomised car colour which includes purple, though not pink. It isn't really anything too special though - the cars aren't exactly an important part of the scene.

      Would you mind explaining the difference between Patreon version and the public version? I mean, are there any differences between 0.4.4 Patreon and 0.4.4 public besides the cheats and earlier access? Or are there some scenes for Patrons only? Sorry if you've already answered this question and I'm just being annoying.

    3. There isn't any content that's locked to the Patreon version. The only differences are earlier access to new releases, cheat options and the "why not support the game?" text on the main menu changes to a thank-you one.
      Also I think the computer item's description is slightly different in the patreon version. Unless I'm forgetting something, that's all there is.

  4. I made a custom NPC with a nasty_sperm trait and allowed additional traits to be added by the game and the NPC ended up having both nasty_sperm and tasty_sperm traits. Is it a bug or do stuff like that happen with custom NPCs? I'm using 0.4.4 version.

  5. This will probably get deleted/ignored by mods or SO himself cause any "negative" feedback/criticism is frowned upon but I saw some ideas from someone and thought it was worth sharing. It's a shame that a game I spend hours and hours in, after years of development, still lacks the content players actually demand...

    The major issue is that nothing you ever do truly matters. Barring the female ending, there's no harm if you have no money. There's no real consequences for having high stress other than a poor job perfomance, which, since money doesn't really matter, it makes stress not matter too. There's no consequences for cheating other than, maybe, your BF will leave you once you give birth to another man's child. Maybe, I've never had this happen to me, and on my proposal hunt playthrough I had this situation happen when I was with a cold-hearted jerk. He didn't even yell at my PC. And even if you do break up, again, no consequences. There's also no real consequences for getting mugged or having the coerced sex with the lowlifes either.

    There's two things he needs to do: add rent and rewrite the stress system. If you can't pay rent, then you either fuck your landlord or you get a game over. And unless you landlord finds your PC extremely attractive, the sex option should have limited uses. This makes money an actual necessity, and now performing good at your job and getting promoted actually means something. If your performance is too low, you don't get paid that week at all. Once he adds more careers, you could get fired as well, forcing you to find another job, but for now, no pay is the only way for it to work.

    Now add a bunch of things to make the PC stressed. Some things that should already make the extremely PC stressed but don't: a breakup, getting mugged and not getting away, an unexpected pregnancy if you don't have the maternal trait (and accounting for the updates SO has planned, the PC is not in a relationship with the "trying for baby status"), losing the dancing competition if your PC is ambitious, throwing a house party if your PC is shy, having sex with the lowlifes, being groped by the concert pervert and the pervy client. Having the "masochist" trait or a new "slut" trait would not add stress to those last 3 situations, so those who like their PCs to be whores are safe. Other things he could add to make the PC stressed: broken appliances (add the option to not call a repairman at all), having sex with the landlord when you don't have the aforementioned traits, have jerk NPCs that you rejected or broke up with harass you on the phone, jerk NPCs harassing you in the gym, and not having sex for too long if your PC has the slut trait. This is just off the top of my head.

    High stress could also give a huge hit to charm, making promotions even harder to get and cause your PC to be awkward or tongue-tied during dates. Dates should also have "failure" states where the man stands up and leaves or something wrong happens during the date. For example, bitchy PCs blowing up at a waitress when the NPC takes you to a restaurant, which unimpressed the caring NPC you were dating, making your attractiveness to him take a huge hit. Alternatively, jerk NPCs would love that. Jerk NPCs could also insult your shy PC for being too quiet or awkward, or rejecting their sexual advances if they're sleazy as well, whereas caring and romantic men actually get a small affection bonus for shy NPCs and will comfort her. A failed date is another way to add stress.

    I know this will most likely never happen, but I wanted to share my ideas on making Newlife feel like an actual game. For those who don't like challenge in their porn, there's always cheats. Use the millonaire cheat, and voila, problem solved. But I think most of us would appreciate having some kind of meaningful gameplay in this, especially since SO takes so long writing new sex scenes, Newlife needs something else to keep player's attention.

    1. meaningful gameplay? This is something people come to for release. A lot of the game mechanics you are trying to talk about are unrealistic. They don't fit into the game's design and certainly don't make it enjoyable.
      see, i can appreciate that you're suggesting something, and the jerk ones are cool as so is maybe having to fuck the landlord if money is a problem, but you can't really effect how much money you earn. All of what you're saying is really mostly unreasonable.

    2. You're wrong on so many levels. How is it unrealistic? This game is living the "no consequences" life. There's no rent to pay so you're freeloading somewhere. If you give birth to a child than isn't from your boyfriend he doesn't even acknowledge it. How is that unrealistic? lol.

      Thanks for blinding your sense of judgment by blatant favoritism towards a game that has been in development for years yet still lacks the basic common sense from the real world. It's fine if you want Newlife to be a dating sim where there's no consequences, but as a GAME having no consequences means every action you do has no real meaning. From a gaming point of view that's unreasonable.

      I just saw what you suggested as a totally dystopian version of newlife. Seems almost diabolical what you want to put that through, and the current shape the stress mechanic is in, there's no way. Hahaha.

    4. I think that money is probably a more fun system than stress, considering that the consequences can actually be sexy, but I would like to see both eventually. On the other hand, smut comes first, considering the kind of game that Newlife is.

    5. I remember when the stress mechanic was unbalanced as shit and made the game unplayable. You had to wait until you made enough money to afford the spa each weekend, and before the spa was introduced welp shit.
      As it is the current update is Relationships and Marriage. I'd like to see some real fleshing out here. Partners cheating, we cheating, option to maybe date the business client as a side hoe, whatever it is, that's where's the focus on for the next few updates.

  6. I have some idea for additional "Spa weekend" content. There should be an event on massage bed with horny massageur where you could be brought to orgasm by intimate massage or even get fucked by him if you encourage him or cannot resit his advances.

  7. Uhh, could you please add an extra filter option in the outfits section? Like sorting the clothing with the highest Cuteness first, or an option to automatically create outfits with the highest Elegance value...
    It's quite alright to start the game over and over again when you release an update, since it's an incomplete game and all, but having to hand pick clothes again and again for the desired values would be a real pain.

  8. Yo Splendid, I was thinking, since we are going ahead with relationships and marriage even that far, can we have a aromantic trait for the PC so she never falls in love? She can still accept proposals for both relationships and marriage but now she can break up anytime she wants too. Food for thought.

    1. Bitchy increases the love threshold, but I'll see about adding a female equivalent of the npc cold_hearted trait which completely blocks love gain.

  9. Quick question, how do you get the lowlife event? The wiki just says to befriend the innocent npc girl, but nothing happens.

    1. when befriending female NPCs, if you have a low "affection" than there are chances for offshoot events.

      The Innocent, this leads to the option to take a walk when befriending, and sometimes lowlifes will show up there.
