Post number 100 - Newlife 0.4.3

Hello everyone!

This post marks a completely-arbitrary milestone: it's the 100th made on the blog. It's taken a while to get there, but I'm perhaps not the most prolific blogger! In an equally important milestone, I'm releasing the 48th update to Newlife with version 0.4.3.

This has been released on Patreon. Early-access Patrons can find it in the creations section here. The changelog is below.

The previous version is now public. You can download it using the links on the right-hand side of the blog. The public version's changelog is here.

As usual, saved files & templates from older versions probably won't work with newer ones.

For new players - just use one of the links to the right to get a zipfile containing Newlife. Once unzipped, you'll see a folder containing .jar and .exe files. Either one of these will run the game.

For either version you'll need to have Java installed. A lot of programs use Java so you might well already have it. If the jar shows up as an unrecognised file type, then you probably don't. In that case you can get it from
The exe should tell you if you don't have the right version on your computer, but you'll still need to install java to run the game.
There's a guide for new players here which includes some troubleshooting tips for installation & downloading.

This version adds contraception failure, including sabotage by evil NPCs with the Impregnator trait.
Next up I'll be starting the relationships update. There's a lot to be done before you can tie the knot, but the path to your wedding day will start from 0.4.4. I'll wish you all a happy future marriage... although some of Newlife's men will prove to be very flawed as husbands!
Here's the full changelog for this version:

Major changes & additions:
  • Condoms can now break during sex. This can very rarely happen naturally but is much more likely if an NPC with the Impregnator trait has sabotaged the condom. During sex either you or your partner can notice this and take appropriate action, although you probably can't trust your partner to tell you if he was the one who sabotaged the condom in the first place...
  • New male orgasm text for broken condom situations in the five main penetrative sex scenes. Npc-Npc sex doesn't have condom breakage: that can wait until NPC pregnancy is added.
  • Npcs with the Impregnator trait can sabotage your pills if they get an opportunity in your flat. It's sometimes possible to catch them in the act but this is not guaranteed. Pill sabotage disables the pill's effects for that week, similar to when you fail a check for the Forgetful trait.
  • Two new traits: Infertile guarantees that you won't get pregnant unless you take a fertility treatment at the doctor. Take this trait if you want to be sure to avoid pregnancy content as the pill is no longer 100% reliable. Unlike the other mutation-category traits, Infertile cannot be randomly chosen in e.g. secret-chaos starts. Damages Condoms is a new mutation trait that makes your vaginal juices degrade condoms, massively increasing the risk of them breaking even when sabotage hasn't taken place.
Minor changes & bugfixes:
  • Fixes to text issues. Thanks to Cubano, Hunter Green and Classique75 for reporting problems they found.
  • Fixed an issue where an NPC rejecting anal could also disable it for other NPCs in the same scene chain.
  • Increased the weight for NPCs initiating anal sex.
  • Fixed an issue reported by pgiac6 where female NPC outfits weren't handling legwear correctly, potentially leading to them being described as wearing a “braless”.
  • Various minor improvements to some passages of text relating to condoms.
  • Made some improvements to a few old actions in existing scenes.
  • Gave impregnators an extra chance to agree to stay the night at the player's flat if they're looking for an opportunity to sabotage her pill.
  • Added an option to remove your partners trousers while making out, as requested a while back on an Inner Circle comment.
  • Following a suggestion from Gatekeeper, the game will now track if your partner has told you that it's safe to do it unprotected because you're a virgin and block pregnancy-related dialogue from him during that sexual encounter.
  • Some improvements to the socialisation event where an impregnator friend is confronted by a past conquest, based in part on suggestions from Saint Destiny.

Enjoy the new version, and let me know if you find any bugs!

  1. The game window is a little too big for my laptop's monitor, and resizing it doesn't help much (it cuts the buttons when you make the window smaller, and leaves space under the buttons when making it bigger)

Maximizing the window resizes it properly, but it doesn't change the fact that windowed mode doesn't.
    (using 0.4.2 public here)

    1. known issues, sadly :/

I cannot recall last statement SO made regarding updating UI

  2. Sometimes when dancing alone, somebody will approach the PC, and you have the opportunity to choose your attitude towards him - but there is no indication which NPC approached. Even after choosing, it doesn't tell you who the guy is (until he finally takes an action).

    1. I believe for this, it is someone coming up behind you, you're not supposed to be able to know.

    2. And you don't turn around to see who it is before choosing your behavior? I'm still not buying it.

    3. I'm just telling you why it is the way it is. My opinion is a different setup would be better, although it probably would require lots of work for little gain.

  3. Hi SO, i think i might just have found a bug, but maybe i'm totally wrong, you'll tell me. When the Sales_boss talks to me about his falling marriage, i get the following line: "As he talks, you make flirtatious eye contact and rest a hand on one of his. " Isn't it a word missing around here? Like his arm, or his leg? Hope i didnt bother you for nothing, and keep on the good work!

    1. You rest a hand on one of his hands.

    2. Anonymous is right - the noun's omitted as it would be the same. Thanks for commenting anyway - good to know you've got your eye out for text problems, as there are always new ones emerging!
